Adelaide Oval is one of the most celebrated cricket stadiums not only in Down Under but also around the world. It’s situated in Adelaide (S. Australia), in between North Adelaide and city centre. The stadium was developed long back in 1871 and is governed by South Australian Cricket Association. It’s the home ground for 2 Aussie cricket teams- Adelaide Strikers for Big Bash League and South Australian Redbacks. Adelaide Oval is fondly dubbed as the most scenic stadiums in Australia.
The stadium covers a dimension of 167 by 124 m and can accommodate around 35,000 spectators which is planned to expand up to 53,000 by 2014. The stadium hosted its first ever Test match in December 1884, between England and Australia. Albeit, Adelaide Oval is predominant a cricket stadium, it also accommodates Australian Rules Football and rugby games.
According to 2013-14 BBL schedule, Adelaide Oval would be hosting 4 matches for Adelaide Strikers on 31st December, 5th January, 18th January and 22nd January. The first match is scheduled against Perth Scorchers, the second match is against Sydney Sixers while the third match is fixed against Brisbane Heat. The last match will have the Adelaide strikers locking horns against Melbourne Renegades.
